YouTube officially removed its Trending and Trending Now pages in July 2025, retiring a feature that once defined viral content. This shift marks YouTube’s growing emphasis on AI-powered discovery, personalized feeds, and Shorts-based engagement.
Instead of one-size-fits-all viral lists, YouTube will now surface content through category-specific trending charts and customized AI recommendations. These will vary by user behavior, viewing history, and geography, with a focus on creator growth and niche content visibility.
While some creators expressed concern about losing a centralized viral metric, YouTube claims this will increase relevance and user retention. The AI tools will also offer automated prompts, help creators reach new audiences, and increase discoverability across YouTube Shorts.
This update is part of Google’s broader mission to reinvent content discovery, aligning with user preferences seen on platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
